Personal Accomplishments

Beth has been active for years in the Scottish and Genealogy communities. Her activities have included authoring, serving as Editor on numerous publications and presenting genealogical programs throughout the United States.

Beth is the author of The Descendants of Simon Gay and Kissin’ Cousins Cookbook. Her genealogical articles have appeared in numerous genealogical publications including The Genealogical Helper, Family Records Today and Reunions Magazine. She is a past National Board Member of the Council of Genealogical Columnists.

In addition to serving as Secretary to COSCA, Beth currently serves as:

  • Editor, etc., of The Family Tree, the publication of The Ellen Payne Odom Genealogy Library in Moultrie, Georgia. Her duties also include serving as Scottish Liason and Public Relations Director.
  • Editor Emeritus of the national Clan Donald USA publication, By Sea By Land. She now serves as Regional Newsletter Editor for Clan Donald USA.
  • Editor of the Council of Scottish Clans and Associations publication, The Claymore.
  • Dame Commandeur, Archivist and Editor in the Sovereign Military Order of the Knights Templar of Jerusalem.
  • National Editor for the Clan Buchanan Banner.
  • Dyess Genealogist of the Clan Skene.
  • Columnist for The Moultrie Observer and The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville, Florida.
  • Beth is also an active member of the following Societies and Associations:

  • The Jamestowne Society.
  • Daughters of the American Revolution.
  • United Daughters of the Confederacy.
  • The Clan Henderson Society.
  • The Clan Home Society.
  • Honorary member of the following clans: Clan Shaw, Clan Chattan, Clan Forrester Society and the House of Gordon.
  • During her career, Beth has received the following awards and recognitions for her efforts:

  • Chiefs Award from the Clan Henderson Society.
  • Distinguished Service Award from Clan Donald USA.
  • Educational and Cultural Grant from Clan Donald USA.
  • Flora MacDonald Award from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina.
  • Community Hero torch bearer in the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay.
  • Honorary Kentucky Colonel.
  • Honored Guest at three Celtic events in 2000 (The San Diego Highland Games, The Atlanta Celtic Festival, and the Rio Grande Valley Scottish Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico).
  • 2000 Distinguished Service Award from the Council of Scottish Clans and Associations.
  • 2001 Odom Heritage Award, Moultrie, Georgia.
  • Honored Guest for the 2001 Ocala Scottish Games.

    COSCA fills a great need in the Scottish community.
