Aboyne Games 2014 - Aberdeenshire, Scotland

Join your North East Clan and Family Kin for Homecoming 2014

Having run for over 140 years, the Aboyne Games have attracted thousands of visitors to witness the yearly show of Scottish culture in one of the most scenic parts of Aberdeenshire.  The games are held on The Green, Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.  As it is put on the Games’ website   ”Though in point of age the Aboyne Games cannot compare with their sister gatherings of Braemar and Lonach, they are of respectable antiquity, having been instituted in 1867 and continued without a break, except for two world wars, ever since.  The programme, originally a comparatively simple one – there were only two flat races, 100 yards and quarter mile has grown till it now includes nearly all the major athletic competitions.”

The Aboyne Games have been selected by VisitScotland for highlight during the Homecoming 2014 celebrations.   In addition to the full menu of traditional highland games events and amenities, the Aboyne Games, together with VisitScotland and other sponsors will be adding a special series of features and displays for the upcoming Homecoming year. The Aboyne Games are reaching out to clans and families with ties to the North East of Scotland - the region of the Aboyne Games.   The aim is to bring as many of these regional clans and families together in Scotland in August 2014 for the special Aboyne Games to be held to celebrate.
